SISA is affiliated with National Liaison Committee(NLC) who acts as a link to most International student Organisation/Association(ISO/ISA) in Australia.

In Australia, unlike other part of the world, there is nearly an ISO/ISA (International Students Organisation/Association) exist in a University with International Students. The size of the organisation can be various, it's structure will be different from each other, but they are being set up to serve all International Students who is studying in Australia.

In Victoria, there are at least 15 ISO/ISA, from within Melbourne to as far as Bendigo University or Monash Gippsland campus.

The most historical one is MUOSS (Melbourne University Overseas Student Services) marching into their 12th anniversary, and the youngest being SISA, formed in 2002.

Different ISO/ISA will appear in different names and organisation structure, but they are unlike clubs/societies in their university, with a few exception. All ISO/ISA were set up to basically act as a representing voice for International Students in their University.

An ISA/ISO will usually function governed by their constitution and policy, with the basic objective of helping and providing services for all International Students, regardless of where they come from.

Some of the more establish one have actually achieve a higher status and be consulted by the University's Council or Vice-Chancellor in planning or policy that might affect the International Student community on campus.

 

National Liaison Committee for International Students in Australia Inc (NLC) was formed in 1986 through the amalgamation of various state-based International Student Organisations across Australia.
