2.1 Preamble
2.1.1 Many universities’ ISO has their own international student run functions. Most of these functions are totally taken care of by the International students on that campus.
2.2 Platform
2.2.1 SISA believes that the experiences from other universities will aid in the organization of our own events of similar proportion.
2.2.2 SISA also believes that in order to allow participants to feel a need to learn, subsidies for external functions should be partial and not for the full amount.
2.3 Action
2.3.1 That SISA encourages committee members to attend external function in order to learn and to network with the committee members of other ISOs.
2.3.2 That SISA would subsidies a maximum of 6 people to attend any single function.
2.3.3 That SISA would subsidies their entry ticket by 50% up to the amount of $20 per person per event.
2.3.4 All participants will need to help out with a report about the event. This report is to be delivered during the next executive meeting after the event.
3.1 Preamble:
Many students are still unaware of SISA’s existence, function and activities.
3.2 Platform:
The students represented (i.e. international students in Swinburne) have to know how SISA is able to help and represent them. Communication between SISA committee and the students represented are limited by lack of awareness. This interaction is vital for SISA to function effectively.
3.3 Action:
That the publicity officers to be the main executives responsible for publicizing SISA. This does not include merely posters and websites, but also articles to be included in student union publications (e.g. The Swine) and other media. The publicity officers should continuously research more ways to promote SISA to Swinburne’s international students.
4.1 Preamble:
SISA is an International Representative body for all International Students studying in all campus of Swinburne University of Technology. They need to ensure that all international students of all campus voice are heard and International Students from one campus are not disadvantaged from other campus. There should be activities cross campus.
4.2 Platform:
SISA believes that there should be some event, activities etc. organised at least twice a semester in each Prahran, Lilydale and Hawthorn Campus. SISA believes that Prahran and Lilydale International Students deserve to get same benefits and service provided by SISA at Hawthorn Campus.
4.3 Action:
SISA Executive to organize Events, Seminar etc. in Prahran, Lilydale and Hawthorn Campus. They need to make plan and schedule for whole year before university starts and inform International Students of each campus via notice board, swine about events they are organizing, time, date etc.
Responsibility: President and Vice-President to ensure that Committee Members are following the policy and organizing event, seminar in each campus.
5.1 Preamble:
SISA Executive Committee Members dedicates their time to organize event, function etc. They need to keep in contact with other committee members to ensure everything is prepared well. Faster and Effective communication they need to call on their mobile phones. Not all Committee Members can afford to spend their mobile phone expense that is related to SISA.
5.2 Platform:
SISA believes that Mobile Phones expenses used by Committee Members for the purpose of SISA function, events etc. should be subsidized. Their devotion of time for the benefit of International Students is more than what we could ask for. Therefore to provide incentive so that there is proper communication between committee members and contact each other for the purpose of SISA Activities, it’s important to subsidize.
5.3 Action:
SISA Subsidize up to $20 a month for the mobile expenses for President and Secretary/Treasurer from the SISA Budget.
Responsibility: Executive Committee of SISA for implementation and maintenance of the policy/procedure.
6.1 Preamble:
There is a distinct gap in communication between stakeholders and SISA representatives. There is also a (seeming) over-emphasis on social events/activities that cater to a minority of stakeholders, as opposed to the larger collective.
6.2 Platform:
There appears to be a general consensus among international students that SISA needs to do more to bridge a prevalent gap in communication between stakeholders and its representatives. There also appears to be consensus among stakeholders that issues of wider welfare interest need to be addressed.
6.3 Action:
That SISA works with Swinburne International to facilitate wider communication via e-mail to all international students at Swinburne.
That SISA addresses as priority, issues of wider welfare interest.
That measures are taken to explore possibilities of providing SIM cards for new students or work towards that end.
